Apparatus

These are the tools we have at our disposal. Our garage located at 17 E Market St holds all our apparatus, and each piece serves a vital purpose in our station.

Squad 30

Our Squad was purchased in 2020, replacing an older, used vehicle. The Squad is licensed as required by the PA State Department of Health, which also requires a mandatory re-licensing every three years.

Squad 30 responds to 911 medical emergency calls, motor vehicle calls, and various rescue calls in both Freeburg Borough and Washington Township.

The Squad is equipped with an adult jump bag, a pediatric jump bag, a trauma bag, oxygen, a folding backboard, plus various other medical equipment. It is also capable of administering oxygen to small animals.

Squad 30 does respond with up to 5 crew members.

We currently have 4 EMT’S (Emergency Medical Technician) and 1 EMR (Emergency Medical Responder) who respond along with additional help from CPR/ AED trained Firefighters.

Brush 30

Our newest piece of apparatus is our Brush Truck. This Unit was an in-house effort by our members. It was proudly placed into service in July of 2019.

When completed, it became only the fifth Brush truck unit in the entire County! It did replace an older unit that no longer fit our requirements.

Brush 30 is a Dodge 4500 with a powerful 6.7 Cummins turbo diesel engine. A CET skid unit was installed in the bed of the unit. It has a Honda gas engine coupled to a X-630 pump. It carries 250 gallons of water. A total of 800 feet of specialized forestry hose is pre-connected using two hand lines.

All required hand tools are carried on the Unit. It can accommodate five of our PA State Forestry accredited Firefighters. If needed, the Unit can also respond to Medical Calls, as medical equipment is also carried on board.

Tanker 30

When it was time to replace our out-dated and underpowered older Tanker, a decision – based on cost and function – was made to purchase a cab and chassis.

The tank from the older piece was then installed on the new piece. Modifications included the addition of a pump and a swivel-rear 12 inch dump valve and chute. The cab and chassis is a 2014 Peterbilt coupled to an Allison 3000 transmission.

The pump chosen is a Darley, 500 GPM. The elliptical tank holds 1800 gallons of water. Additionally it carries a 2000 gallon portable pond (dump tank). Also on board are several 1 ¾” pre-connect hose lays, plus various size supple lines.

Additional equipment included includes assorted items to assist in any operation it is called for. The main function of Tanker 30 is portable water supply.

Engine 30

The main piece of apparatus at the Freeburg Fire Company is a 2016 Sutphen fire engine powered by a 450 horsepower Cummins diesel engine. The transmission is an Allison automatic. The engine carries 1000 gallons of water that is supplied to a Hale Qmax 1500 GPM pump.

The cab hauls eight people. This includes one driver, one officer, and six firefighter seats. There are five jump seats, all with quick release SCBA. The cab also has a TIC (Thermal Imaging Camera), gas meter, AED (Automated External Defibrillator) , med bags, and extra radios.

The business portion of the piece is 1250 feet of 5 inch supply line and four main fire attack lines, 1 ¾ and 2 ½ and 3 inch . The engine carries 30 gallons of Class B foam, dedicated to one 1 ¾ hand line that is capable of discharging the foam for certain type of fires. The Engine carries multiple hand tools for various rescue and fire suppression duties.

In addition to hand tools, it also carries a battery operated Holmatro Combi rescue tool dedicated to extrication. With that we use a Reciprocating saw, air chisel, and portable power tools.

Some others tools on board are two chain saws, K saw, and various amounts and sizes of cribbing.
